Irma was born on June 30th, 1941, in Hebbronville, TX to Domingo and Eloisa Benavides. She was a loving and devoted daughter. On June 24th, 1962, she married James Wiggins and began her life as a military spouse. They raised three children, Terri, Roy and Eloisa and were married for over 60 years.
Irma had a passion for living. She enjoyed dancing, bunco, camping, sewing, traveling and a good old-fashioned dance or get-together with family and friends. She always brought the best desserts! When she became a grandmother, her biggest joy was her grandchildren. She was at every birth and known to be at most every game and school event. She took joy in planning and preparing many of the foods for our family events.
As time went on, our roles reversed. We began to care for her in most every aspect of her life. Her grandchildren included themselves in this endeavor. It was not unusual to hear her telling them to “make it”! They enjoyed her spicey personality and gutsy attitude through every turn in our journey. It was the greatest gift to support her and love her through this time in her life.
Irma was preceded in death by her father, Domingo, her mother, Eloisa, and her brothers Alvaro and David. She is survived by her husband James and their children Terri (Bud), Roy (Rosemary), Eloisa (Randy), 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, her sister Aurora, and brothers Corando and Abelardo.
On Friday, September 9th, the gathering of family and friends will begin at 9:00am with a service to bless and celebrate her life to begin at 10:00am at the Funeraria del Angel-Memorial Holly, 3442 Holly Road, Corpus Christi, Texas, 78415. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens for immediate family only.
