Jimmy was a good and loving father to his children and continued his fatherly duties until his passing, always being there for help and advice to keep his children on track no matter the situation. Jimmy was a very hard worker. His work ethics were to be admired. His work was a duty which he took very seriously, and he strived to give his best every day. He was a pipeline welder in his younger years. After his father retired to the Redmill Ranch, Jimmy took over the family business BBS Construction. After the business was sold, he raised cattle and farmed on his family ranch. In his later years, he worked at Texas Boll Weevil Eradication in Robstown where he enjoyed his job and the people he worked with. Jimmy was an avid coin collector, enjoyed fishing, hunting and water skiing in his younger days and was also a very accomplished pool player which he taught all his children.
Jimmy is survived by his children, Jana Darbonne (Butch Leeds), Connie Pilarczyk (Paul), James “Jim” E. Smith Jr., Larry Smith; five grandchildren, Colton Hattersley, Dakota Hattersley (Madison), Ciara Smith, Holly Jones, Miranda Pilarczyk; and one great-grandchild, Everleigh Hattersley.
