Jami attended St. Stephens Episcopal School in Austin Texas and graduated from W.B. Ray in 1955, in Corpus Christi, Texas. She attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and the American Mime Theater in New York City, as well as Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She lived in Tennessee, Missouri, North Carolina, Virginia, Texas, Bahrain, Dubai UAE, Pakistan, and Mexico.
As a child, Jami was a long time member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was a Blue Bird and then a Campfire Girl, and as an adult, she was a leader and trainer. In North Carolina, she served on the Governor's task force on the Substance Abuse Council and worked with the Abused Women’s Shelter. In Virginia, she worked with "Angels in the Attic" resale shop that gave its funds to local charities. She also worked with the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce and Reading is Fundamental with the local school district. She was President of the Floyd County Homemakers and a member of the Jacksonville Arts Center and the Floyd County Women’s Club.
In Dubai, she served for two years a Vice President and then President of the Petroleum Wives Club. In Mexico, she was a member of the American Legion Aux, Unit 7 and was President for two years. She was in the Altar Guild of St. Andrews Anglican Church in Chapala, Jalisco.
Jami is preceded in death by her father, Henry Jamin Gordon (1903-1977); her mother, Laurel Marie Whitney Gordon (1901-1997); and her husband, Thomas Keehnen.
Jami is survived by her children, Laura Marie Reed (Pennsylvania), Rebecca Ruth Schreiber (Corpus Christi, Texas), and Joseph Patrick Lawson (Austin, Texas); and one grandson, Justin Patrick Lawson (Austin, Texas).
A Memorial Service for Jami will be announced at a later date and will be held at Church of the Good Shepherd, 700 S Upper Broadway, Corpus Christi, TX 78401.
