Jesus P. Lerma, passed away on July 21st, 2020, at the age of 79 in Corpus Christi, TX from contracting COVID-19. He was born on January 2nd, 1941. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose Lerma and Guadalupe Perez Lerma; a brother, Eusebio Lerma, Sr. and two loving nephews, Gerald Lerma and Adam Torres. He is survived by a brother, Narciso Lerma, Sr. (Margarita), and his only sister, Janie Torres. Jesse started working for Hamlin Pharmacy and Soda Fountain at the ripe age of 19. There he made a name for himself with his signature dish, Jesse’s Homemade Chili. Jesse was proud to serve three generations of customers. Devoting the next 60 years to serving the community he loved. During his free time, he enjoyed painting and sketching. He always spoke fondly and loved reminiscing of his travels to the island of Hawaii. He also had a vast collection of elephants and loved taking care of his cats. He enjoyed being around family and spending holidays with them. Jesse will never know what the impact of his simple way of caring for people by just being himself meant to so many with his unconditional love, generosity and kindness. He will be forever missed.

When my son was younger, we used to spend Saturday afternoons at Hamlin and Jesse knew us by name! Jesse always made us feel so welcomed and his food was out of this world! Our sincere condolences to Jesse’s family.
