

Dub was a member of “The Greatest Generation”. He was raised on a small farm near Waco, Texas, during the great depression and learned the value of honesty and hard work. He was very proud to have served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and retired with over 25 years of service from Corpus Christi Army Depot.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Gladys Kirkland Blackwell and his loving wife of 71 years, Ona Slough Kirkland.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Linda (Jerry) Pennington, 2 granddaughters, Raye Lyne McElhaney and Kelly P. Mitchell and husband, Tommy, 4 great-grandchildren and his niece, Shirley Blackwell Davis and husband, Robert.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will follow at Memory Gardens Mausoleum with Military Honors.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Robert Davis, Jerry Pennington, Tommy Mitchell, Colton Mitchell, Erich Cater, and Alex Cater.
The family would like to give special thanks to Rev. Dr. Moore and friends from Second Baptist Church for their kindness and support.
