Jon Stephen Harwood, age 75, lived in Hondo, TX and passed away on August 1, 2025 from complications of Cerebral Palsy. He was born in San Antonio, TX on July 12, 1950. He graduated from WB Ray High School in 1968. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education from Texas A&I Kingsville in 1976.
He married Patricia Ann Pickens Harwood on August 4, 2001 and moved to Ingleside, TX. Jon worked in Civil Service for the government for many years. He later retired and focused on his hobbies and health.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and loved his church in Ingleside, TX then in Hondo, TX.
Jon loved music, working on puzzles, reading and watching old TV shows. He loved watching sports on TV. He loved the San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Cowboys and most of all The Houston Astros. Jon loved listening to music and talking about current events. Jon had an amazing memory and shared he knowledge freely. His favorite time of year was Christmas and loved to listen to Christmas music. Jon was a gentle and kind soul with a great love for Jesus!
Jon was known for his kindness and sweet, gentle demeanor. He was loved by all who came in contact with him. He had a big heart and always donated to foundations like St. Jude’s hospital and anywhere he possibly could.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Pickens Harwood, Father, Baxter Harwood and mother, Martha Evelyn Harwood. Jon had no children or grandchildren. He is survived by his adopted family Dustin and Cris Mills and their two daughters Alexandra and Madeline (of Hondo, TX)
Special thanks to Dustin and Cris Mills (and family) for moving Jon to Hondo, TX in August of 2017, after Hurricane Harvey. The Mills family took care of Jon and saw to all his special needs for years. Jon became part of the Mills family and Hondo community and attended his church until he became ill and could no longer attend. Special thanks to Erica and Joann for helping with his care, and his church members who always checked on him and checked to see if there was anything he needed. Jon’s final days were spent at Community Care Center (in Hondo) where he received great care from his nurses and staff and Hospice nurses and staff.
