Josefina was born on December 1, 1945, to Pedro and Josefa Ramos. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Gilbert Camacho Sr., with whom she built a beautiful family.
A woman of profound faith, Josefina was a dedicated and faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church. She found immense joy in attending services and reading her Bible daily. Her church family knew her as a sweet, radiant soul who lifted the spirits of everyone around her. Josefina also possessed a servant’s heart; she spent several years volunteering with the Foster Grandparents program in CCISD, where her love for working with small children shone brightly in the classroom.
Josefina had a passion for life’s simple pleasures. She could often be found tending to her beautiful garden, doing word searches, or socializing with her dear friends and neighbors. She loved the peace of going to the beach and took immense pride in keeping a very tidy, neat, and welcoming home. Above all, she loved her family fiercely. Some of her grandchildren’s fondest memories include her taking them to the local natatorium for a swim, followed by a special trip to the bakery after for sweet treats. She was also legendary in the kitchen, famously making the absolute best arroz (Spanish rice) that her family will forever cherish.
Josefina was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gilbert Camacho Sr.; her parents, Pedro and Josefa Ramos; multiple siblings; and her dear grandson, Justin Tyler Camacho.
She is survived by her loving children: Estella Camacho, Gilbert Camacho Jr., and Hector Ramos. Her legacy lives on through her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved very much. She is also survived by her siblings: Angelina Hinojosa, Melba Savoy (Paul), and Ernest Ramos (Kathy), as well as a host of many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Josefina’s independent spirit, sweet presence, and loving heart will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
