

Joseph “Joe” Isaac Thompson passed away on May 24, 2011 at the age of 88. He was born on April 10, 1923 in Floris, Iowa, the son of John and Flora Davis Thompson. He married Ruth Darlene Billings on September 18, 1945 and remained with her until her death in 2004.
Joe was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving overseas as a Corsair pilot in the Pacific Theater and a helicopter pilot in Korea. Between the wars he graduated from Texas A&M as a chemical engineer. After Korea, Joe and Ruth returned to Corpus Christi where he was an engineer and Vice President at PPG Industries- American Chrome until he retired in 1988.
He is preceded in death by his lovely wife of 58 years, Ruth; his brother, Dolph and sisters, Francis, Ferne, Effie, Nellie, Iris and Kathryn.
Joe is survived by his sons, D.J. and Bruce Thompson; daughter-in-laws, Laura and Sandy; grandchildren, Brian, Scott, Chris, Amanda and Jennifer; great-grandchildren, Christina, Jacob, Kayla, Ethan, Colin, Kyle, Eva and Andrew.
Visitation will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Friday, May 27, 2011 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Iowa.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to a church or charity of choice.
