Josephine Abrego

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Josie Abrego, loved and adored mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and sister-in-law who went to be with the Lord on May 13, 2025. She is preceded in death by the love of her life, husband Richard Abrego. She was 82 years old. Josie lived a life filled with love, faith, and compassion.

Born on July 28, 1942, in Corpus Christi, Texas, Josie was a devoted member of Holy Family Church, where she found strength and joy in her faith. Her unwavering love for God was evident in her daily life, as she touched the hearts of many through her kindness, generosity, and steadfast spirit.

Josie was a devoted wife who supported her husband Richard unconditionally. They met when she was 14 and married 3 years later on September 13, 1959. They were married for 65 years. Josie was a great athlete, she was the caption of her basketball team at Mary Carrol High School, played softball and coached kickball. As a mother, Josie nurtured her children with unconditional love and support, instilling in them the values of faith, family, and resilience. As a grandmother and great grandmother, Josie showered her grandchildren with affection and wisdom. Her home was a haven of love, filled with family gatherings, laughter, and the aroma of barbeque cooking on the grill outside. As an aunt, she created cherished memories with her nieces and nephews, who will forever remember her warmth, beautiful smile, and laughter.

Josie is survived by her loving children, Rachel (Hector) Gonzalez, Abby (Jacob) Stonecipher, Rita (Abel) Arriaga, Rick (Margarita) Abrego, Rae Bailey, and Roberta (Ruben) Rodriguez her 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Also survived by her Sisters, Alice Brulloths, Rita (Steve) Gongora, Lannie Linan, and brother Micheal (Beth) Linan and many nieces and nephews.

A gathering to celebrate Josie’s life will be held on June 6, 2025. Gathering from 9:30-10:30, Rosary and Memorial Service to follow at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415.
