Joyce Ray, born and raised in Waco, TX, passed peacefully in her sleep on Sunday morning at age 83. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband James Ray, her parents (E.M. and Ida Bea Warren), brother (Joe Warren), eldest grandson (Jason Nutt), and eldest son (Kevin McMillan).
Joyce is survived by 3 children, Kathy Nutt (Tom), Brenda Seeds (Buddy) and Bryan Ray, all of Corpus Christi. She had 4 living grandchildren (Amy Seeds McMinn, Ivy Seeds Armitage, Jaimie Nutt, Keri McMillan Updyke), 8 great-grandchildren (Samantha, Ryan, Athena, Aeson, soon-to-be-1-yr-old Jason James, Nicole, Cole, Bowen), her baby sister, Wanda Brooks (Waco), and 4 nieces & nephews (Jonelle, Steve, David, Lori Ann). There is also extended family in TX, CA, PA, and OK.
Joyce Ann (Joy) was a strong woman who loved her family dearly, raising her 4 children all over the country, alone for the most part, as a proud Navy wife. She loved dancing with her husband and doting over her precious poodles! She had a green thumb and was proud of her beautiful yard and gardens; she had creative talents in sewing & ceramics, and, as an adult, accomplished her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 15, 10:00am, at Memory Gardens (8200 Old Brownsville Rd, Corpus Christi). In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider making a donation in her name to www.alz.org to benefit Alzheimer’s research.
