Kaaren Hammock Hitt, beloved wife, mother, sister and friend, went to her heavenly home on Dec. 8, 2020 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born to James Menefee Hammock and Vera McCall Hammock on July 20, 1943. Her legacy is a life that shines with the evidence of God's goodness, fulfilled promises, mercy, and love.
Kaaren grew up in Second Baptist Church, Corpus Christi, and surrendered her life to missions as a young girl in the Girls in Action ministry. She was a gifted musician and pianist who used her talent in music leadership and worship in church, outreach ministries, and schools. Her heart overflowed with God's love for teaching children, leading her to become a teacher as a young woman. In 1962 she married William L. Hitt and was a loving, faithful wife throughout their lifetime of ministry together, including William's long pastorship and their joint surrender to foreign missions in Thailand.
Kaaren’s many years in Thailand were a fulfilled promise from God. She opened her heart and home to the people of Thailand. In addition to other members of New Vision Baptist Church in Bangkok, she led a music ministry that celebrated the birth, life and victory over death of Jesus through the production of original plays and musicals performed in both church and public venues. Kaaren, along with her husband Bill, facilitated a couple’s ministry in her home, taught Bible studies, and led a Puppet Ministry. Thailand became her home, and she dearly missed her friends and church family when she retired from the Mission Field.
As a homeschool teacher, Christian school teacher, Administrator of Brighton Park Baptist School and Corpus Christi New Vision Academy, she committed her life to teaching children and young adults, pointing them always toward the cross.
Beginning in 1997, she led her students, teachers, and church members to participate in the Operation Christmas Child ministry, building thousands of boxes for children around the world. This 22-year-long ministry continued into her retirement. She built her last gift box in 2019.
Kaaren leaves behind to cherish her memory her three children: Shari Fleming, Susi McNaughton, and Bill Hitt, Jr., sons-in-law Sam Fleming and Patrick McNaughton, and daughter-in-law Crystal Hitt. Her life was blessed by her beloved brother Gary Hammock and family, and her 13 grandchildren: Joshua, Caleb, Rose, Poppy and Lillie Fleming, Kelsey, Jacob and Noah McNaughton, and Angel, Kaalee, William and Tyler Hitt, as well as one great-grandchild, Isobel Fleming.
We rejoice that our mother, grandmother, sister and friend has entered the heavenly reward reserved for all who call upon the name of Jesus. She was a good and faithful servant, a pearl of great price, and a Godly example to all.
