

Arlene Steel, 83, went to be with her Lord and Savior July 17, 2012. Arlene was born to Lee Lance and Lilly Mae Grimes August 12, 1928 as Katherine Arlene Grimes in Stratford, Texas. She was a prominent Real Estate Broker for 40 years in the Corpus Christi Bay Area.
Her parents both preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her sisters Patricia Grimes and Marjorie Collins, also her brother Tommy Joe Grimes.
She is survived by her husband of over 65 years Robert (Bob) L. Steel; her daughter Lynda Steel Martin (Jack); her son Tommy L. Steel (Jean); her 3 grandchildren, Cindy Graves (Steve), Ryan Martin (Roxy) and Shannon Steel. She had 5 great grandchildren, Ashlyn, Rebekah and Samuel Graves; Evan and Luke Martin. Also surviving her is her brother Ray Grimes (Beverly).
Arlene was selected to be on the All-State Women’s Basketball team in 1945. She and Bob were married August 8, 1947 and moved to Corpus Christi in 1954. Arlene became a Real Estate Broker in 1966. She was with several Real Estate companies prior to being the Principal Broker of two major companies in Corpus Christi (Pacesetter Realtors and Arlene Steel Realtors). In 2000 both companies merged to form Coldwell Banker Pacesetter Steel Realtors. She was a major part in this merger. In 1991 she was awarded Realtor of the Year by the Corpus Christi Board of Realtors. She also served as a Director of the Corpus Christi Board of Realtors as well as the State of Texas Board of Realtors.
Arlene had been a long time member of First Baptist Church of Corpus Christi. Burial will be private.
A memorial service in Arlene’s honor will be conducted at the First Baptist Church, Thursday July 19, 2012 at 3:00 pm.
