Leslie S. Archer

Dr. Leslie S. Archer, 93, died on Monday, May 29, 2017 - Memorial Day - at the Partners In Care Hospice House in Bend, Oregon. He was born on March 18, 1924, in Dalkey, County Dublin, Ireland, to Charles and Nellie Archer.

Les graduated from the Trinity College Dublin School of Medicine, and in 1952 he married Dr. Naomi Barry (1929-2016). Shortly thereafter, he and Naomi moved to Rochester, NY, where he completed his specialty training in obstetrics and gynecology. The couple went on to have four children. A key life experience for Les and Naomi was their work as medical missionaries at the Rimmer Memorial Hospital in Quito, Ecuador (now referred to as Hospital Vozandes) from 1958-1960, followed by eight years in the Panama Canal Zone, where Les worked at Gorgas Hospital. In 1970, Les and Naomi and the four children moved to Corpus Christi where Les was the chairman of Ob-Gyn at Memorial Medical Center for fourteen years. In the mid-1980s, he became deeply involved in a second career as a volunteer chaplain in prison ministries that spanned most of the rest of his life.

Les is survived by two sisters: Edna McAllister and Audrey Downey; brother-in-law Kevin Barry; four children: Anne Ruth, Nuala Miriam, Philip Luke, and Stephen Barry; daughter-in-law Rose Archer; and five grandchildren.

On November 12, 2016 at their home in Corpus Christi, TX. he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Naomi Marjorie June Archer who was born on September 24, 1924.

A memorial service will be held for Les at the Second Baptist Church on Saturday, July 22, at 10 a.m. with a Church luncheon following the service.
