Our beautiful Aunt Lilly went home to God at the amazing age of 104. She was born in Gonzalez County, TX on Tuesday, October 21, 1913. She grew up on a farm there with her parents, Francisco and Tomasita Trevino Sandoval. She was the second child in a family of five children. Beatrice, Frank, Charlie and Tommy are now in heaven, as well.
She told about her daddy taking her and her siblings to school on a horse-pulled buggy and said that later he had the first car in town, which was a Model T Ford with a rumble seat. Aunt Lilly said that the family didn’t suffer through the Depression because her daddy belonged to a meat club with the neighboring farmers, who took monthly turns sharing a cow with the club members.
She graduated from Dilworth High School at a young age and the family moved to Robstown when Charlie and Tommy were still in school. Aunt Lilly worked at Zale’s in Corpus Christi for many years and was a super sales lady who had many loyal customers.
She met and fell in love with Vicente Flores. They were married and settled in Corpus. She and Uncle Chente loved to dance and were known to trot a mean polka. She never had children but was loved greatly by her nieces and nephews and always remembered all of them on Christmases and birthdays.
She was the last of that generation in our family and truly a treasure.
