After retirement, Luis began his career spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ as a minister of the Iglesia de Cristo located at 241 Cheyenne St. in Corpus Christi. Luis taught many Bible Classes in homes and traveled throughout the United States and Mexico teaching people God's word. Luis also published many Biblical articles in various publications. During his coaching career, he not only won a few championships, but he mentored many young men who went on to have extraordinary careers in various fields. Every now and then some man would walk up to Luis while in public and say, "hi coach because of you I was motived to succeed". Luis' greatest earthly love was his family. He loved making memories with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. He was always taking photos of family at gatherings and loved to have dinners with family and play games like Loteria. He loved BBQ and just being surrounded by family.
