With heavy hearts, yet with steadfast faith, we announce the passing of Magdalena Garza Alvarado on September 7, 2026, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Magdalena was 85 years old. She was born on December 15, 1940, in Kingsville, Texas, to Placido and Rita C Garza. A woman of quiet strength and enduring devotion, she lived with a steady sense of purpose rooted in family, service, and faith.
Magdalena is survived by her daughter, Adelita Alvarado of Corpus Christi, Texas; two sons, Abel Garza, Alvarado of Kingsville, Texas, and Ross (Karen) Alvarado from Portland, Texas; five grandchildren Ashley N. Alejandre, Russell R. Alejandre, Amber Light, Michael, Alvarado, and Crystal Day; 10 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Herlinda Garza Moreno, and brother Benito Garza, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Magdalena was preceded in death by her husband, Jesus L Alvarado; both of her parents; and one brother, Jesus C. Garza.
Magdalena adored working with children and retired from CCISD after many years of dedicated service. Her care for others was not confined to her work alone—it extended naturally into the way she nurtured relationships, offered support, and remained present for those who needed encouragement and kindness.
A devoted member of El Divino Salvador Presbyterian Church, Magdalena found deep meaning in worship and fellowship, and she was an active member of the Presbyterian women. Her commitment to serving the community through the church was evident in the time she gave to visiting local nursing homes, attending conferences, participating in church prayer circles, and helping feed the congregation for events. She also loved to cook, and she shared that gift in ways that brought people together and made others feel welcomed and cared for.
