Manuel F. Flores, 71, of Corpus Christi Texas, passed away Wednesday morning April 27, 2016. He was born December 1, 1944 in Laredo, Texas to Miguel and Petra (Fuentes) Flores. He lived the majority of his life in Corpus Christi where he attended Ella Barnes Junior High and Roy Miller High School. After high school he enlisted in the Marine Corp and was stationed stateside at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina and at one point was stationed in Naples, Italy where he fell in love with the Italian countryside and of course Italian food. Upon completing his tour of duty with the Marine Corp Manuel came back to Corpus Christi and attained his welding certificate to begin working at Reynolds Refinery, but ultimately worked at the Corpus Christi Army Depot for 40 years as a helicopter repairman. He married Alicia Rivera Flores of Kingsville, Texas in 1973 and they had three children together, Veronica Flores Batchelder of Austin, Linda Flores Householder of Austin and Raul Flores of Mesquite, Texas. Manuel and Alicia later divorced, but remained lifelong friends.
His friends called him Meme or Mentu and he had a lot of them which he loved dearly. And anyone who knew Meme for even a little while knew that he loved three things; his kids, his grandkids and those Dallas Cowboys! His passion was football and he was always the man in the room that could tell you anything you ever wanted to know about the game, the NFL and his beloved team. He also had a keen memory and deep appreciation for military aircrafts as well as vintage cars.
After retirement from CCAD, Manuel moved to Austin, Texas to be closer to his family which included his sons-in-law, Mark David Batchelder and John Mark Householder, whom he got to spend hours talking about football with. His grandchildren Olivia Lilee Batchelder, Jonathan Mark Batchelder and Daisy Teagan Householder were the true loves of his life and they got to spend many good times with him before he went on to be with the Lord. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law Lilia and Manuel Ybanez , Socorro Flores, and Pat and Deacon Arnold Marcha who always looked out for him and whom he loved greatly. Manuel gave his love, time and resources willingly and happily to those he cared for and he will be extremely missed.
Go Cowboys!
