Maria Guadalupe Cuevas

December 12, 1952 - July 22, 2026

Our hearts are heavy as we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend at age 73 of Corpus Christi, Texas on July 22, 2026. She passed peacefully, surrounded by the unwavering love of her family and friends. She was born on December 12, 1952 in Harlingen, Texas, 1 of 7 siblings and was the daughter of Margarito and Oralia Cuevas.

Over the years, she built a life defined by boundless love, incredible resilience, and a deep devotion to her family, friends, and faith.

She was a true social butterfly bringing warmth and a vibrant spirit into every room she entered. In her career as a waitress, she made people smile, turned some meals into a happy memories, and brought comfort to strangers with her vibrant spirit and friendliness.

Lupita was the cornerstone of our family—a fierce protector of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and our greatest cheerleader. Whether she cooked everyone's favorite meal, shopped with nieces, attended Sunday church, or drank her cup of "cafesito", she always made everyone feel special and deeply loved. She taught us the true meaning of grace, and her laugh and bright spirit will live on in our hearts forever.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Javier Herrera; daughter, Santiaga Hernandez, brothers Roberto Cuevas, Ricardo Cuevas, & Margarito Cuevas, and sister Maria de Soccoro Abrego.

She is survived by her loving children, Francisco Cuevas (Linda) & Sandra Reyes (Araceli), her grandchildren Connie Hernandez, Joseph Cuevas, Tobey Cuevas, Clarissa Cuevas, Chance Reyes, & Alicia Cuevas; great grandchildren Riley Tamez, Jade Tamez, & Rosalie Cuevas; siblings Catalina Ortiz (Debra - Bubba) & Ruben (Rachel); sister-in-law Sylvia Vega & Brother-in-law Martin Abrego, and countless nieces and nephews and a host of extended family members. A celebration of life for Lupita will be held at the Funeraria del Angel Corpus Christi at 549 Cheyenne St.

Family will be welcoming guest for her visitation on August 5th from 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. with the Holy Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m.v

Mass will be held at Our Lady Pilar Catholic Church on August 6th at 11:30 a.m. Burial at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery located at 9974 IH 37 Access Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78410.
