Maria C. Hernandez

Maria C. Hernandez passed away peacefully at the age of 87 in her home with her loving family by her side on August 5, 2011. Born August 5, 1924 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Manuel Cardona and Luisa Zapata. She married Jesus R. Hernandez in 1946 in Corpus Christi and had a beautiful family. Happy Birthday Mom.

A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who dearly loved her entire family, battled several illnesses for years and never complained. Maria was loved by all whom in one way or another had contact with her. A great cook with a passion for making sure all her children were happy, healthy and caring. She was a strong person who prayed to the Good Lord every night. She will be dearly missed and will always be remembered.

She was preceded in death by Her loving husband Jesus R. Hernandez in 1995, Her son Guadalupe Hernandez in 1993, her parents, five sisters and one brother.

Maria leaves behind her daughters and sons: Maria Lugo (Julian), Maggie Ramirez, Gloria Perez, Jesusa Garcia (Gilbert), Reymundo Hernandez (Maria), Luisa Silva, Rosalinda Torres (Leo), Juan Hernandez (Helen), Rick Hernandez (Mari), and Robert Hernandez all of Corpus Christi, Texas; Raul Hernandez (Christina) of Yuma, Arizona, Jesse Hernandez (Luisa) of Santa Maria, Texas, Manuel Hernandez (Maria De Jesus) of Hanford, California, Ruben Hernandez (Abygail) of Somerton, Arizona, and Isabel Castillo of Greenfield, California; her sisters Victoria Pena, Esperanza (Juan) Maldonado and Gregoria Ortiz; 44 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Sunday, August 7, 2011 at the Funeraria del Angel, 549 Cheyenne, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m., Monday, August 8, 2011 at Holy Family Church. Interment to follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
