Maria Raquel Hernandez

Maria Raquel Hernandez, 82, went home to be with our Heavenly Father, Sunday, September 7, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 29, 1931, in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico to Rosendo and Irene Cerda.

She is preceded in death by husband Eugenio G. Hernandez, Sr.

Maria was devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed by her five children, Janie (Israel) Olmeda, Calletana Muniz, and Christina Hernandez of San Antonio, Luis Muniz and Eugenio (Kimberly) Hernandez Jr. She is also survived by her grandchildren Erica Camacho, Scott Olmeda, Krystal Rae Gonzales, Candice (Joe) Muniz-Ferry, John G. Muniz, Karissa Muniz, Joshua Ruiz, Eugenio J. Hernandez III, Trino J. Hernandez, Alexander Montano, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Maria was also survived by her two brothers Rene Cerda and Renato Cerda of Matamoros, Tamaulipas Mexico.

Family will be receiving friends on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Interment to follow at Memory Garden Cemetery.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Jude Aririguzo, Dr. Jorge E. Medizabal, and River City Hospice. The family also wishes to acknowledge daughters Kelly, Janie and her daughter-in-law Kimberly for the very special care that was given to Maria over the last 2 years during her battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

As Maria would say to parting family and visitors “Dios lo vendiga… Dios lo quida” so we say to you, Mom “Vaya con Dios”
