

Mona was born on December 26, 1937, in Dolores, Texas. She graduated from Roy Miller High School and later earned her degree in Nursing at Del Mar College, beginning a lifelong career devoted to caring for others.
Mona served as a compassionate and dedicated ICU, ER, and postpartum nurse for more than 30 years, spending most of her career at Memorial Hospital. She was deeply respected for her kindness, professionalism, and unwavering care for her patients and coworkers alike.
Her Catholic faith was an important part of her life and provided her with strength, comfort, and guidance throughout the years. She enjoyed traveling, history, music, bowling, and crafts, and she especially treasured time spent with her family. In recent years, Mona proudly served as President of the Residents Association within her assisted living community.
Mona was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, and friend. She was known most of all for the kindness with which she treated everyone she encountered. Her quick wit, wonderful sense of humor, and loving spirit brought joy to so many, and she will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Maria Vigil Castillo and Silverio Castillo.
Mona is survived by her uncle, Francisco Vigil; her sons, Rene C. Mireles and Xavier P. Mireles (Audra); her granddaughters, Allison Thomas (Anthony), and Melissa Clark (Evan); and her great-granddaughters, Natalie, Ellie, and Molly.
The family would like to extend special thanks to her cousin, Elizabeth Sanchez, for all the love and support she provided Mona throughout the years. They also wish to thank the wonderful staff and residents at Waterford Assisted Living for their friendship and care, as well as the compassionate nurses of Altus Hospice and her other family and friends.
Visitation will be held at Funeraria del Angel, 549 Cheyenne St., Corpus Christi, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, beginning at 9:30 a.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 12:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 1:30 p.m., with Committal services following at Holy Cross Cemetery.
