Marie A. Diaz Rodriguez

Marie D. Rodriguez, 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 15, 2012. She was born July 16, 1921 in Victoria, Texas to Francisca and Cruz Diaz. Marie lived in Corpus Christi after her marriage to Capt. Antonio Zapata (Tony) Rodriguez of the Corpus Christi Fire Department. She was a homemaker, who enjoyed gardening and working at her ranch in Bluntzer. Marie enjoyed reading, watching sports, traveling and vacationing throughout the U.S. with family.

Marie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and enjoyed knowing the accomplishments of her family members. Marie totally enjoyed attending family celebrations with the family. Marie had a great love for children and served as a foster parent for Nueces County for over 25 years caring for children in need. She leaves many loving memories to be cherished by her family, friends, and foster families.

Marie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Antonio of forty five years. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Mary (Jimmy) Garcia, Esther (Juan) Garcia, Lupe (Mike) Alaniz, Beatrice (Alec) Carabajal, Carrie (Isidro) Martinez and her brother, Albert (Aurora) Diaz.

She leaves behind her loving daughter, Pat (Arturo) Delgado; son, Robert (Sylvia) Rodriguez; nieces, Petra A. Martinez and Palmira Martinez (Houston) and nephews, Albert Wayne Martinez and Steve (June) Martinez (Halls, TN).

Memories of a wonderful grandmother known as “Momsy” will be cherished by her grandchildren: Belinda Nowlin, Barbara Dives, Arthur (Melissa) Delgado, Robert (Margo) Rodriguez Jr., Adrian (Wendi) Delgado and great-grandchildren, Brianna, Alexandra, Alanna and Jacqueline Nowlin, Dorado, Cassandra, and Dante Delgado, Gabrielle and Alec Dives, Kristopher Viera and Anthony Rodriguez.

“Tia” will be dearly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, October 18, 2012 with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors, 4901 Everhart Road. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 19, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
