Martha Jane Warnke of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away peacefully and joined her Valentine, John, on February 14, 2022. Martha was born in San Francisco, California on May 11, 1947. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Warnke, and her parents, Ellis and Dorothea Womack.
By a twist of fate, Martha met the love of her life, John, many years ago while frequenting a common place the two attended. It was soon after that, the two were married and with their blended family of five children, embarked on the life of a Navy family traversing the country to interesting and fun duty stations.
Raising the children was Martha’s priority while John proudly served abroad in the United States Navy. After John’s retirement as a Navy Senior Chief, the family moved to Winters, California before finally settling down in Beeville, Texas. Once the children were grown, the couple moved to Maumelle, Arkansas, where they lived for twenty years until their hearts were called home to Corpus Christi, Texas, their final relocation in life.
Martha was an avid fan of the San Francisco 49ers, in particular, Joe Montana. She had a known crush on Howie Long, whom she followed in his NFL career and especially afterwards on the NFL pre-game shows. She enjoyed the NFL games and her giddiness for Howie Long was well-known in the family.
Martha never lost touch with a special childhood friend, Elaine, with whom she communicated with through calls, emails, cards, and gifts sent with love over many years. Their friendship meant the world to her and we know Elaine will miss her friend dearly.
She is survived by her five children, Kathryn Costa, Pam Bernhardt (George), Christopher Warnke (Tang), John Womack, Kirby Warnke (Kristi), eleven grandchildren, and an extended family who the boys grew up with.
A visitation for Martha will be held Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 5:00 P.M. at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415, followed by a chapel service at 5:30 P.M.
