Mary was born on December 15,1955, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to her late parents, Valdemar Posas and Edith Posas. She was raised by a strong-willed and hard working single mother who provided everything she could for Mary and her siblings. The values strength, determination, and compassion that Mary learned from her mother became the foundation of her own life and were lovingly passed on to her children and grandchildren.
Mary graduated from Roy Miller High School in 1974, where she proudly served as Drum Major of the band. She often shared stories from those cherished years and would always say, "Once a Buc, always a Buc!" Her favorite color was purple, a reminder of that special time in her life.
On May 25th, 1974, Mary married her high school sweetheart, Rolando Gomez. Together they shared 52 wonderful years of marriage, weathering life's storms through faith, love and devotion to one another. They raised their two daughters with strong family values and an unwavering commitment to one another.
Mary was a woman of deep faith who firmly believed that if God brought you to it, he would bring you through it. She loved her family fiercely and would move mountains to help those she loved. She was always the first to lend a helping hand and never missed an opportunity to support her grandchildren at sporting events, school activities, and special occasions.
Mary had a creative spirit and enjoyed crafting, decorating for parties, and making mums. Her home was often the gathering place during the holidays, where she worked tirelessly to ensure everyone was well-fed and surrounded by love. She welcomed both the Gomez and Posas families with open arms, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and togetherness. Wherever Mary was, people felt at home.
Mary dedicated more than 25 years of service to Dr. J. Robert Cone. She loved her work and treasured the friendships she built with her coworkers and patients. Dr. Cone was more than an employer, he was a mentor whose kindness made him a part of her extended family. During her years in the office, Mary also formed one of her most cherished friendships with Hilsa Lugo. Their bond was built on faith, music, dancing, and a deep appreciation for one another despite their different personalities.
Mary will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her remarkable kindness, her infectious laugh, and her love of singing loudly and joyfully.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Valdemar Posas and Edith Posas, and her sister, Rose Posas.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Rolando Gomez; her daughters, Monica Gomez (Luis Chapa) and Erin Nunez (Ezekiel Nunez); her grandchildren, Ricardo “Richy” Cadena (Charlene Lewis), Ezekiel “EJ” Nunez Jr., Antonio “Tony” Nunez, and Aneesa Hernandez; her siblings, Hilda Hernandez (Tony Hernandez), Johnny Posas, Cynthia Cantu, Valdemar Posas (Antonio Rangel), Joe Roger Posas, and Francine Norwood; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends from both the Gomez and Posas families, all of whom she loved very much.
Mary's legacy of faith, kindness, generosity, and unconditional love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
