
Maurilio Trejo, Sr., 86, passed away in the early morning hours of March 16, 2013. He was born on September 12, 1926 in Laredo, Texas, and passed on at his home in Corpus Christi, Texas surrounded by his family, just as he wished.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rodolfo and Concepcion Trejo; his in-laws, Manuel and Herlinda Alaniz; sons, PFC Jose Manuel Trejo and Miguel Trejo; son-in-law, Henry Casanova, Sr.; grandson, Mark A. Casanova; brothers, Ramiro and Pedro Trejo; sister, Adela Morales and his granddog, Pasquale.
Mr. Trejo leaves behind a legacy of memories and a large family to match. He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Maria Alaniz Trejo, whom he met in Laredo, Texas, and married on December 21, 1944. His surviving children include four sons and three daughters, Maurilio Trejo, Jr. (Cathy), Regino Trejo (Mary), Robert Trejo (Thelma) of Spring, Texas, Rachel Banda of Angleton, Texas, Irma Contreras, Ruth Casanova and Joe Trejo (Lisa). He is also survived by his siblings, Juan Trejo of Grand Island, Nebraska, Julio Trejo, Jose Trejo of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Natie Trevino of Arizona. Aside from children and siblings, he leaves behind a legacy of twenty-five grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
After serving his country in the United States Navy, the World War II veteran was able to move his family to the Corpus Christi area, first to a small home in Clarkwood, and then to the home where he would spend the rest of his life in the Molina Neighborhood. Mr. Trejo worked for many years with Corn Products and then moved on to his position with Ajax Plumbing. After his retirement, Mr. Trejo enjoyed spending his days working on household projects, playing with his many grandchildren, and watching his favorite westerns from his rocking chair.
He spent his final days at home in hospice care, provided by the excellent team at Lighthouse Hospice. The wonderful nurses who cared for him right up until the end will forever be a blessing to the Trejo family.
A special thanks would like to be extended to Thilda, Lori, Becky, and Melissa, a wonderful group of women who were able to make the transition for Mr. Trejo and his family a more comfortable and peaceful one. Also, thanks would like to be extended to El Mesias Baptist Church for providing the Trejo family comfort and support throughout the difficult process of losing a loved one. Lastly, but not least a great thank you goes out to the many family members, friends and neighbors who were able to call and visit with the Trejo's, at their home during the process of Mr. Trejo's Transition.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at El Mesias Baptist Church, 4418 Molina Dr., with a service to begin at 7:00 p.m.. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at El Mesias Baptist Church, interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
