Michael Barrera

He was born in Corpus Christi, TX on January 17, 1958 to Guadalupe J. and Guadalupe D. Barrera. He attended Moody High School and graduated in 1976. He earned a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Corpus Christi State University in 1987 and a Master’s in Business Administration from Texas A&M Corpus Christi in 1996.

He worked for the City of Corpus Christi for 22 years and retired as the purchasing director. He then went on to become the City Manager of Mathis, TX for 10 years until he retired in January of 2024. In addition to his professional career, Michael was also the owner of a successful hay bailing business in south Texas and co-owner of a cattle ranching business in Oilton, TX.

He is preceded in death by his father, Guadalupe J. Barrera, and his brother, Mario Barrera. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Rosie Barrera, and their two children, Julian Martin Barrera and Marisa Wallace (Bryan).

Michael’s visitation will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Thursday, August 15th from 6:00pm to 9:00pm with a holy rosary to begin at 7:00 pm.

A Catholic mass will be held at St. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church on Friday, August 16th at 2:00 pm. He will be laid to rest at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
