Miguel Elijio Cervantes was born on May 8th 1933 to Nicolas and Antonia Cervantes in Graytown, Texas. At the very young age of about 10 years old Miguel began working as a cotton picker. It was there in those fields he would develop the grit that would define him for the rest of his life.
He had the honor of serving our County in the United States Army where he would nearly, see battle during the Korean War. He gladly and proudly worked as a Constable in precinct 5 for many years where he served and protected his community. He was also a supervisor at the Army Depot where he had nearly perfect attendance before retiring.
In 1971 Miguel married the love his life Ester Conde Cervantes. They quickly fell in love and ran to the courthouse to be married, and just 2 years ago renewed their vows in their church for their 48th wedding anniversary. The two of them loved to travel and find adventure together. They didn’t need much because they had each other.
He is survived by his loving wife Ester Cervantes, Daughters Sally Yates, Nancy Fuentes, Marylou Ochoa, Sylvia Brooks, and Sons Manuel Ochoa, Reynaldo Ochoa, Reymundo Barrera, and Mike Cervantes, many wonderful grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nephews. He is preceded in death by siblings Juanita Garcia, Rosa Cantu, Alfredo Cervantes, and his daughter Becky Ann Padilla.
Miguel loved to attend church with his family. He had a passionate love for the Lord, enjoyed fishing and hunting, and would sometimes get lost looking for buried treasure. He was a faithful husband, a good father, a loving grandpa, and a great leader.
On Tuesday the 19th of January at 4:20pm Miguel Elijio Cervantes went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He faithfully served the Lord, and he will be missed.
