Soon after graduating from Sherman High School, she was waiting for a bus at the corner of Travis St. and Lamar St. in Sherman, Texas, and casually struck up a conversation with Frank Morrison, who was waiting for the same bus. At the time, neither knew they would be future husband and wife. They were married on December 21, 1947, and celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary prior to his death in 2011.
After her husband’s retirement from the oil business, they enjoyed spending days at their ranch in Goliad County, Texas with family and friends. The ranch was a favorite getaway where family members would spend fall weekends hunting dove, quail, and deer. There were plenty of afternoon BBQs followed by beautiful sunsets.
When it started to get hot under the South Texas sun, Frank and Jean would head north to their condo in Beaver Creek, Colorado to spend the summer, play golf and enjoy the cooler climate.
Prior to moving back to Corpus Christi, Frank and Jean resided in Victoria, Texas, where they were longtime members of Central Church of Christ. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Manuela Galindo for her nearly 12 years of service as Mom’s personal caretaker. The family is also very grateful for the care Mom received from Amanda Foust at the Holmgreen Assisted Living Center.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband in 2011 and a son, Steven Morrison in 2008. Survivors include a son, Frank (Tracy) Morrison, Jr. of Corpus Christi; two daughters, Sharon (Jerome) Smith of Houston, Texas, and Carla (Craig) Elsken of Willow Park, Texas, and a brother, John Sims, of Longview, Texas. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi.
