

Norman Lewis Hanelt Sr. passed away in Juneau, Alaska on September 26, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Plymouth, Massachusetts on February 4, 1934, to Bertha (Gould) and George Hanelt. At the young age of 19, he joined the United States Navy achieving the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer. He served his Country for over 27 years, being a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
After retiring, he and Dianne spent several years traveling across the United States and Canada in their RV. His greatest pleasure was to spend time with his children and grandchildren.
He was a Communicant of Saint Andrew by the Sea Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council Number 10677, Padre Balli Chapter. He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of Al Amin Shrine Temple.
He is preceded in death by his parents Bertha and George Hanelt, ten siblings and two grandchildren, Elise Posten and Kyle Hanelt.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Dianne Carole (Gilbert) Hanelt; children Holly Ann Mammini and husband Geno of Mi-Wuk Village, California, Lynn Hanelt Shaw and husband Don of Corpus Christi, Texas, Norman Lewis Hanelt, Jr., and wife Janine of Hayward, California, and Timothy Michael Hanelt and wife Mary Jon, of Corpus Christi, Texas; sister Rose Ellen Lothrop of Pembroke, Massachusetts.
He is survived by eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St Andrew by the Sea Catholic Church on Monday, October 6, 2014, at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Corpus Christi Shriner's Hospital Transportation Fund, the Wounded Warrior Project (www.WoundedWarriorProject.org/Donate), or to a charity of your choice.
