

He was born at home on August 30, 1943 in Corpus Christi, Texas to the late Farrell and Nettie Rains.
He attended Mary Carroll High School. Darrell married Paulette Clifton in 1967.
Darrell worked for 13 years as an Iron Worker and was co-owner of The Gun Rack for 10 years and finished his working career as a Superintendent for H&S Constructors for 20+ years, he retired in 2009, He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, brother and uncle. He will be missed dearly by all his family and friends.
He enjoyed participating in hunting, shooting sports, poker and fishing. He also enjoyed teaching and was an instructor at Del Mar College for the Iron Worker Apprentice Program. He was a past member, president and director of the Corpus Christi Pistol and Rifle Club.
Darrell will be remembered for his sense of humor, he always had a smile, loved storytelling and family gathering and BBQ’s and was always quick to lend a helping hand to family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Donnie Rains.
Darrell leaves behind his family to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Paulette Rains, one son, Roddy Black; one daughter, Lisa Majek (Jimmy); two grandchildren, Jerry Majek and Jamie Eubanks (Chris); five great grandchildren, Allison, Brayden, Jaxson, Tanner and Kathryne. One brother, Rocky Rains (Christi) and two sister-in-laws, Tresa Rains and Shirley Boyd; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would especially like to give our sincere thanks to Aurora DeLaCruz, his very devoted caregiver. We would also like to thank the 2009 ICU staff and Memorial Hospital, whose amazing initial care allowed us to have these last 6.5 years with Darrell. Our most sincere thanks also goes out to Raymond Acebo, MD, Del Cielo Home Health and all the doctors, nurses, medical teams, family and friends that have helped us along our journey.
The pallbearers will be Rocky Rains, Duane Rains, Roddy Black, Jimmy Majek, Brandon Rains, Jeremy Rains, Chris Eubanks and Jerry Majek
Family will be receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2015 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with entombment to follow at Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
