He was born on May 30, 1937 in Laredo, Texas to Ofelia and Olegario Venegas. Oscar graduated from Roy Miller High School in 1955, where he lettered in baseball. After graduation, he joined the workforce, but continued his love of baseball playing for various teams; most notably with the Corpus Christi Seals.
Among the various highlights of his baseball career was being asked to be a part of the Corpus Christi Legends Senior Baseball team, and playing in the Houston Astrodome, as well as being able to play in a coed pickup softball game with one of his daughters.
His passion for playing ball took him into his seventies playing in the Corpus Christi Legends Senior Softball League. He stopped playing on his own terms and then made the most of watching his grandkids extracurriculars. He was exceptionally proud that all of his grandchildren graduated from college; but nothing surpassed his enduring love for his wife, Yolanda, and their six children: Oscar, Zina, Dina, Gabriel, Greta, and Sandra.
He is preceded in death by his parents Olegario and Ofelia Venegas; his brother, Hector Venegas; and his sister Irma Venegas.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Yolanda R Venegas, as well as his children Oscar D (Norma) Venegas, Zina A Canales, Dina A Venegas, Gabriel E. (Elizabeth) Venegas, Greta I. (Noe J.) Saucedo, and Sandra G. (Omar) Campos; his brothers, Javier (Estela) Venegas and Dr. Enrique (Jane) Venegas; his grandchildren, Christina L. (Mark) Hussey, James R. (Jenny) Venegas, David C.
