

Othon is a graduate from Premont High School Class of 1958. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1960 to 1964 after 4years of service. He worked for H.E.B. warehouse in the early 1960’s in Corpus Christi and the Valley. In 1966 he joined the U.S. Postal Service until 1994 when he retired after 28 years of service as a supervisor. He also worked as a substitute teacher for CCISD after retiring from the postal service.
In 1967 Coached at Westside Pony and graduated from Texas A&I State University in 1976 with a B.A. in Psychology. Othon was a member of the Zebra-Ware Chapter of Corpus Christi Texas for 38 years for Volleyball, Softball and Basketball. He was the Pastor of the Jehovah Jireh Christian Church Gen. 22:14 for 22 years and retired in 2004. He gave his heart to the Lord Jesus in 1982. The Lord Jesus took his ministry to Guatemala C.A, San Salvador C.A, to Mexico San Luis Postosi (El Naranjo) Cuidad Victoria, Torreon Coahuila where he adopted a family as his own, the Sonora Miranda Family.
He is preceded in death by his father, Pedro Porras and one brother Felix Porras and one sister Maria Ramirez.
Othon is survived by his loving wife, Dora Curiel Porras and mother, Camila Porras, his three daughters, Linda Gail (Fred) Huber of Cedar Park Texas, Isabel Marin Guajardo (Adam Reyes) and Luz Divina Porras (David Zapata) of Corpus Christi Texas; one son, Mario Alberto (Ruby) Porras of San Antonio Texas; four brothers, Pedro Porras Jr. of Corpus Christi Texas, Frankie (Evangelina) Porras of Baytown Texas, Juan (Maggie) Porras of Beeville Texas and Hector (Delia) Porras of Orange Grove Texas; six sisters, Dolores (Porfie) Garza of Baytown Texas, Aurora De Leon (Johnny), Irma Cruz, and Diana Fisher all of Orange Grove Texas and Eva (Jim) Wager of Corpus Christi. He also leaves behind to cherish his memories 11 grandchildren, Graciela Sonora Miranda whom he saw as a daughter, nephews, cousins, special niece Alicia Garza from Falfurrias Texas and his best friend Jesse Carreon from Midlothion Texas.
Visitation will be from 5:00p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Funeraria del Angel Chapel with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. A Chapel Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2012 with a burial to follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
