Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Paula (Perez) Rodela (AKA Mona) went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 5, 2023. She was seventy-eight years old. Paula was born on March 2, 1945, to Pedro and Palmira Perez in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Her witty sense of humor and sweet personality availed making friends easily. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren. She was a very caring and giving person, always helping anyone in need. She did quite a bit of traveling, thanks to her son and his wife and kids taking her with them on all their yearly vacations. She went on a cruise to the Bahamas, Hawaii three times, Colorado several times, Seattle, Florida, California, Yellowstone National Park, and numerous other places. She loved every minute of it. She also loved her novelas, gardening, sewing, reading her bible, cooking, and dancing the night away.
Paula attended Tuloso Midway High School, Durham’s Business College (Houston), and Del Mar College. She worked for the City of Corpus Christi (Finance Dept.) for twenty-five years, retiring in 2007. She was a Catholic and member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, since the church was built in 1969. She was also a volunteer there after retirement.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Roberto Rodela; parents, Pedro and Palmira Perez; sister, Maria Perez Bell; brother, Pete Perez, Jr.; and two nephews, Mark A. Perez and Rigas Lemonis.
To cherish her wonderful memories and life’s lessons, she leaves behind her beloved son, Rafael and his lovely wife (Michele) Garcia, her loving daughter, Veronica (Richard) Ramos; five brothers, Henry Perez, Joe (Laura) Perez, Jorge (Erisola) Perez, David Perez, and Tony Perez; three sisters, Rose Spentzos, Olga (Raymond) Soliz, and Susan (David) Haislett; five grandchildren, Alana (Rudy) Conde, Fabian Mancilla, Jr., Rafael Garcia, Jr., Chloe I. Garcia, and Jacob A. Garcia; great-granddaughter, Aaliya Conde, all were the love of her life; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved chihuahua, Shakira.
A special thank you to her best friends, Juan Valverde, Robert Cantu, Mary Yrlas, and the late Elma Nichols, for helping Paula over the loss of her beloved husband, Robert. Your love and friendship were very special to her.

Paula’s wishes were for bright colors to be worn for happy memories. Every time you see a hummingbird, remember the small things in life and the beauty God gifts us while we visit a short while . . . Life is very short.
