

Rafela “Fela” Silva, born February 10, 1947, in Uvalde Texas and passed away on October 23,2023. She devoted her life to making a positive impact on others. For two decades, Fela served as a dedicated religious education teacher shaping the values and beliefs of countless students. Her commitment to imparting wisdom and faith was unwavering.
Rafela was a valued member of the church’s Altar Society, and a member of the Lady of Guadalupe Society, Mary’s Mantle Consecration. Supporter of the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity at our Lady of Corpus Christi. Fela selflessly dedicated her time and talents to enhance the spiritual environment for the congregation.
Rafela was also deeply involved in the Works of Mercy here at Saint Cyril and Methodius Church. Through her selfless efforts, she demonstrated the true meaning of compassion and empathy, aiding and supporting those less fortunate. Her legacy of kindness will continue to inspire us all.
Rafela had many gifts that she used to touch the lives of those around her including her love of quilting. She created countless quilts featuring the Virgin de Guadalupe which she donated and gifted to many. Rafela built many friendships in the quilting community and will be especially missed by the Nesting Robin Quilters.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Eliseo Hernandez and Theodora Turruviate Hernandez; her sister, Dolores Castro; and nephew Daniel Castro.
Survived by her are her husband of 55 years, Jose A Silva; daughter, Susie (Joe) Lerma; son, Roger (Debbie) Silva; four grandchildren, Cindy Silva, Melina Lerma, Dylan Silva, and Miranda Lerma; great grandson, Porter Richardson; and great niece, Sarah Castro.
Rafela’s memory will be cherished by her family and friends, and her legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in the lives she touched.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. at SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. by Father Jim Kelleher. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Monsignor Lawrence White. She will be laid to rest in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the “Works of Mercy” Saint Cyril and Methodius Church.
