

Ramona “Mona” Salazar Gamez, 81 of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away on January 15, 2025. She was born in Chapman Ranch, Texas on May 7, 1943 to Ramon Torres Salazar and Leonor Garcia Salazar. Mona completed her GED at Del Mar College in 1978 while also obtaining her administrative degree as a clerk typist. In August 1995, Mona married Manuel Gamez in Corpus Christi. Shortly after, she obtained her florist certification in November and enjoyed a career as a florist until her retirement in 2023. She loved flowers and working on different displays. Mona worked on many birthday parties, quinceaneras, weddings and anniversary celebrations. Mona had an unshakeable faith and unwavering love for her savior Jesus Christ. She was an active member of the Catholic Church, She was a secretary for the Guadalupanas and a CCD Teacher for Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church on Clarkwood. She was also the director of all church programs including posadas and creative and artistic programs for 18 years. She loved crocheting, cooking, baking, painting, gardening and shopping. Her favorite past time was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she truly loved and cherished.
Mona also loved dancing, listening to music and going to the senior center to mingle and play bingo. Without a doubt, cooking was Mona’s specialty and the family always looked forward to gatherings so they could share some of her famous dishes. She is preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Gamez, parents, Ramon T. Salazar and Leonor G Salazar, Brother David Urrea and sisters Carolyn Moreno and Gloria “Gina” Salazar.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her daughters, Darlene (Hector) Garcia and Laura Ybanez and Gabriel Martinez. Mona also leaves behind her grandchildren, Bryan, Jynelle, and Ashley, great grandchildren, Robert, Bella, Miya, Landon, Ava, Paxton, Lucas and Olivia as well as her siblings Rose Garza, Jose Ramon Salazar and Mary (Balde) Naranjo as well as numerous other family members and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Travis Thompson, Dr. Timothy Wagner and Janice Wagner and Gregg and Joann Shultz. As well as a thank you to all of the friends and family that have given love and support throughout this journey.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with the Holy Rosary being recited at 7:00 PM at Memory Gardens Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass of Mona’s life will be celebrated at St Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church on Monday, January 27, 2025 at 12:00 PM. Graveside services will immediately follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
