It is with a heavy heart, surrounded by her family, that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Raquel R. “Rockie” Quintanilla, 86, of Corpus Christi, Texas on January 5, 2025. Raquel was born on March 2, 1938, to Cruz Rios and Maria Prisca Perez Rios in Laredo, Texas.
Raquel is preceded in death by her parents, Cruz and Maria; her beloved husband, Ernesto S. Quintanilla, her adoring brother Javier Rios (Olga) and her loving sister Elvira Yolanda Herrera.
Raquel graduated from Ray High School and Del Mar Vocational School of Nursing. She spent 45 years in the medical field serving the Coastal Bend as an LVN in and around Corpus Christi. She was employed with Memorial Medical Center, C.C. Osteopathic Hospital, Toxicology Associates, and retired from Bay Area Care Center in November 2003. She dedicated the last 25 years of nursing to chemical dependent people.
She had many passions in life including reading, Wordscapes, crosswords, word finds and family game nights. She enjoyed taking care of her plants and had a green thumb which could convince any plant to flourish under her tutelage. Raquel always made sure she sent her check into Publisher’s Clearing House because she knew one day her name would be drawn. She loved watching her Dallas Cowboys play football and almost every college sport, always rooting for the Texas teams to come out on top but mostly the Texas A&M Aggies. Raquel had a unique sense of humor and had a quick wit that kept you on your toes.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her daughters whom she loved to the depths of her heart; Pearl Nereida Quintanilla, Priscilla Nadine Quintanilla, Patricia Ninette Portales and husband Daniel, and Raquel Janel Quintanilla Flores and husband Richard. She also leaves behind two grandchildren Brandon Ernest Quintanilla and wife Joyce and Ramzi Marie Portales as well as one great grandson Brandon Orion Quintanilla. She also loved her nieces and nephews.
To her daughters' delight, she ended her own obit "They will miss her dearly." She is not wrong.
A visitation is scheduled for Mrs. Quintanilla on Thursday, January 9, 2025, from 5:00 – 9:00 PM at Memory Gardens Funeral Home with the Holy Rosary being recited at 7:00 PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St John the Baptist Catholic Church located at 7522 Everhart Road Corpus Christi Texas 78413. Services will conclude at the church.
