

Raul G. Peña, of Corpus Christi, Texas, went home to be with the Lord our Savior on Monday, February 6, 2012. He was born on October 22, 1926 in Gregory, Texas to Guadalupe Peña and Victoria Garcia Peña. During World War II he served as a Seaman Second Class for the United States Navy. He was in the American Area Campaign and Asiatic-Pacific Area. He retired from the Corpus Christi Army Depot after 35 years of service. While living in Portland, TX he was a Knight of Columbus, a member of the VFW, the Police Auxiliary, the Planning and Zoning Board and was very active with the community. He loved to fish, shuck oysters with his dad and brothers, play cards and dominoes, and spend time traveling to Las Vegas, NV Coushatta, LA, and Windover, NV with his loving wife, family and friends. His adventures were many as he took trips with family to Garner State Park, Disney World, Graceland, Hoover Damn, Carlsbad Caverns and several places in Texas and Mexico. He attended Most Precious Blood Catholic Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Aurora Peña.
He is survived by his loving wife, Santa G. Peña of Corpus Christi, Texas, his step-children Sylvia (Ramiro) Lara of Robstown, Texas, Sandra Garza of Corpus Christi, Texas, Orlando Ocanas of Harlingen, Texas, Richard (Cynthia) Ocanas of Corpus Christi, Texas, Lisa (Charles) Perez of Corpus Christi, Texas; his children Rudy Peña of Corpus Christi, Texas, Laura Peña of Pasadena, Texas, Raymond (Rosemary) Peña of North Carolina, Nelda (Mark) Swetish of Beaumont, Texas and David (Kina) Peña, Corpus Christi, Texas; his brothers Ramiro (Rosa) Peña, Roberto (Lydia) Peña, Ruben (Alejandra) Peña all of Portland, Texas; his sisters Angelita DeLaGarza of Refugio, Texas, Amelia Castillo of Portland, Texas and Alicia (Armando) Trevino of Rockport, Texas; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church with interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Orlando Ocanas, Richard Ocanas, Raymond Peña, Roberto Peña, Ruben Peña, and Stephen Swetish. Honorary pallbearer will be Ramiro Peña.
