Rebecca Jean Hartung was born on April 1, 1955, to Amy Liljedahl and Robert Hartung, in Kankakee, Illinois. She relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas, and called it home for over forty years. When she retired from AT&T, Rebecca enjoyed attending plays at the Harbor Playhouse and exhibitions at the Art Center. She loved to travel, spending time in Hawaii, Colorado, Illinois, Arizona, and Mexico. Rebecca also loved, more than anything, being Grandma to her ten grandchildren and her great-grandchild.
Rebecca famously loved to bash camping in the outdoors, but secretly we all know she loved it, #CampIDontWanna. From Mathis to Garner, she’d go with you even in July! It says a lot about a person if they’d camp with you in July, in Texas.
A strategist, Rebecca was always crushing you at Scrabble, Words with Friends, and Trivial Pursuit. Rummy was her card game, but, she’d play Texas Hold ‘em if she had to. She’s enjoyed her retirement with the one-armed bandits in Sin City, USA. She’d be first to remind you to Play the Max Bet.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Burke, and brothers Robert and Michael Hartung. She is survived by her six children, Christie Irps, of Corpus Christi, Texas; Michael (Laura) Burke II, of Diamondhead, Miss.; Shelly (Cory) Hanneman, of Granite Shoals, Texas; Christina Burke (Russell Albarenga), of Austin, Texas; Megan Burke of Rollinsville, Colo.; and Ashley Burke, of Corpus Christi, as well as her ten grandchildren, Kira (Derik) Wideman; Ethan and Gretchen Hanneman; Grace and Cooper Burke; Emily, Adam, and Elizabeth Greene; and Christian and Sophia Albarenga; her great-granddaughter, Myla Cruz-Cavoto; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held in Corpus Christi, Texas, on December 28th, 2022, at 2 pm at The Art Center of Corpus Christi located at 100 N Shoreline Blvd. A separate service will take place in Kankakee, Ill.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Nueces County Chapter of Toys for Tots, an organization Becky and her late husband Pat supported for years riding in the Toys for Tots Motorcycle Run.
Services are entrusted to Funeraria Del Angel-Everhart, 4901 Everhart Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78411.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.CageMillsFuneralDirectors.com for the Burke family.
