

“Bosko” Abrego, beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and
brother-in-law who left us on May 7, 2025, at the age of 83. He was born on December
26, 1941, in Corpus Christi, Texas and spent his life surrounded by family and friends
who cherished his warmth and humor. His beloved wife Josie was everything to him.
When he found out she had cancer, he was devastated and would say he could not live
without her. They met when he was 14 years old and they would marry 3 years later on
September 13, 1959. They remained married for 65 years until his death.
Richard was a devoted father to Rachel Gonzalez (Hector), Abby Stonecipher (Jacob),
Rita Arriaga (Abel), Rae Bailey, Rick Abrego (Margaret), and Roberta Rodriguez
(Ruben). Richard will be forever remembered for his unwavering love and support. As a
grandfather of 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, he brought joy and laughter
into their lives, sharing countless adventures that will be treasured forever. His bond
with his family was unbreakable and always looked forward to being around his
children.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Manuela De Leon Garcia and brother Oscar
Garcia. As a brother to Fermin Garcia, Olga Garcia, Dr. Alice Vasquez (Carlos), and
Prof. Julio Garcia, Jr. (Lydia), he was a source of strength and encouragement. He was
always ready to lend a helping hand or offer words of advice. As an uncle he showered
his nieces and nephews with love and affection.
Richard was known for his wonderful cooking. He loved spending time in the kitchen.
He cooked for an army and anyone that came by to visit would get to eat his delicious
food. When in high school, he ran track, sang in the choir, and was an excellent boxer.
He had a big personality and a joking spirit. Richard touched the lives of many with his
kindness, humor and generosity. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A gathering to celebrate Richard's life will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025 at Memory
Gardens Funeral Home, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Tx. The gathering
will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., rosary 10:30 a.m. - 11 a.m., followed by the
memorial service at Memory Gardens Funeral Home.
As we say goodbye to Richard, we celebrate the incredible life he lived and the love he
gave so freely. He will remain forever in our hearts.
