Richard Nava, 83, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Born on September 23, 1942, in the same city he called home throughout his life, Richard’s journey was marked by service, devotion to family, and enduring faith.
A proud graduate of Roy Miller High School, Richard went on to serve his country with honor. He joined the United States Naval Reserve on February 25, 1960. His commitment led him to active duty beginning February 26, 1962. During his service, he was stationed aboard the USS Taconic as part of the Second Fleet. He completed his active duty on February 26, 1965, and was honorably discharged from military service on February 26, 1967. His time in the Navy remained a source of pride throughout his life.
Richard was a man of Christian faith and deep familial bonds. He is survived by his loving children: daughter Ruby Ann Nava Selcer and son Jose Ricardo Nava, Sr. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Brittany Nicole Selcer; Brandon Austin Selcer and wife Loriann; Brynn Elise Selcer; Brianna Hope Selcer; Candace Celeste Suckey and husband Corey; Jose Ricardo Nava, Jr.; Joshua Alec Nava and wife Chasidi; and Andrew Michael Nava.
He also leaves behind great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy: Ilyana Nava, Kassidy Prado, Olivia Villarreal, Kendall Suckey, Brandon Selcer Jr., JoeRian Nava, Milani Nava, Joshua Selcer, and Emery Garcia Nava.
Richard is remembered fondly by his sisters Elida Nava Castro, Socorro Nava Moreno, Irma Nava Valdez, and Angelita Nava Ramirez, as well as his brother-in-law Antonio Sanchez.
He now joins in eternal rest those who preceded him in death: his father Jose Nava and mother Maria de los Angeles Gomez Nava; infant siblings twins Luis and Rogelio Nava, Ninfa Nava and Ramiro Nava; brother Jose Raymundo Nava; sister Yolanda Nava Sanchez; sister-in-law Laura M. Nava; brothers-in-law Enrique Castro, Pedro Moreno, Dionicio Valdez, and Nicolas Ramirez; and great-grandson Christian M. Selcer.
Richard’s life was one of quiet strength and enduring love for those around him. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
