Richard Lee Niño passed away at the age of 65, August 24, 2012. He was born August 23, 1947 in Stockbridge, Michigan to Jose and Juanita Niño.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jose and Juanita Niño.
He graduated from Roy Miller High School in 1966; Del Mar College and Texas A&I in Kingsville with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education in 1971 and in 1996 he graduated from Corpus Christi State University with a Master’s of Science.
He retired from the West Oso Independent School District in January 31, 2002 after teaching for 25 years. His love of teaching led him to substitute for Corpus Christi Independent School District for 10 years, mostly at T.G. Allen Elementary.
Richard had many interests, but Pyramid History took him to travel to Machu Picchu, Peru, Central America and Mexico; his love of history led him to travel to London, England.
His hobby was collecting World War II memorabilia.
Richard was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church where he served as an usher for many years.
He is survived by 3 sisters: Maria Y. Beavan, Rosie Treviño, and Grace (Joe) Hernandez, 4 brothers: Joe (Amelia) Niño, Fernando, Danny and Javier Niño all of Corpus Christi, Texas. His survivors include his nephew David (Marcella) Treviño of Boca Raton, Florida and numerous cousins.
Honoring him as pallbearers will be his brothers: Joe, Fernando, Danny, Javier; brother-in-law, Joe Hernandez and close family friend David Gonzalez.
The family of Richard Niño would like to thank the Christus Spohn Shoreline System staff on the 6th and 8th floors; Dr. Billy Albarado, Dr. Nan and Dr. Sehgal and to the staff of Fresenius Medical Care on Staples Street, and “special heartfelt thanks” to everyone who prayed for him.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 26, 2012 at Funeraria Del Angel-Memorial Holly with a rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. that evening at Christ the King Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 27, 2012 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
