Richard attended King High School, where he excelled at playing baseball, was named All State Catcher and was a home run champ. He then graduated in1992 and went on to play ball as starting catcher at the University of Texas-Brownsville. He ultimately received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Texas A & M in Corpus Christi.
Richard was also certified as a Master Diver and obtained his Captain's license. He then pursued a career in biology with the Conrad Blucher Institute on the TAMU-CC campus. He was most recently employed by Mobile Mini for the past 5 years.
He married his beautiful wife, Melisa, on November 3, 2018 and enjoyed dancing with her every chance they had and spent his spare time with his family. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and was a charitable man. He was an avid sportsman and had a passion for fishing and hunting with his brother, family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Melisa Perez; his mother, Diana Perez; his grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his father, Rogelio Perez (Lydia); his brother, Sergio Perez (Odella); his sister, Denise Zambrano (David); his nephew, Ryan Zambrano; his niece, Rebecca Zambrano; his stepchildren, Samantha Botello (Jeremy) and Stephen Botello; and his precious grandson Brayden.
Visitation will be held at Memory Gardens Chapel at 12 noon on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, with Holy Rosary recited at 12:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church at 2:00 PM with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
