In his younger years, Robert was a mechanic for the family trucking business. He worked hard alongside his parents and learned early that family comes first and nothing beats a job done right. That work ethic stayed with him his whole life.
Robert was happy, outgoing, loving, and caring. He had a big heart and took care of his family and friends like it was his job. If you needed help, he showed up. If Ramón Ayala was playing, you could count on Robert to be dancing. If he was in the kitchen, you knew the food was going to be good — he loved to cook and was very good at it, especially his menudo. And if there was a car or truck that needed work, you’d find him under the hood with his tools and his music.
He lived like a man with nine lives — full of energy, humor, and love. The last five years were hard as he struggled to talk and communicate, but his spirit never dimmed. We saw his love in his eyes, in a bowl he made for you, in a nod to the music, and in the way he held the people he cared about close.
Robert now joins his twin brother Albert in heaven, reunited at last.
He is survived by children Jeannie Almeida spouse Edward, David Gonzalez; siblings, Rosemary Benavides (Daniel), Martin Gonzalez, Daniel Gonzalez (Tina), Anita Hernandez (Joseph), Rogelio Gonzalez (Concha), Reynaldo Gonzalez, and Jaime Gonzalez (Olga). Numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother Albert Gonzalez; parents, Juanita Gonzalez, Roberto Gonzalez; son, Roberto Gonzalez III; and niece, Candy Olguin.
Robert will be remembered for his laugh, his generosity, his dancing to Ramón Ayala, his cooking, especially his Menudo, and his grease-stained hands. He taught us to work hard, love big, feed the people you love, and find joy in the music and the moments in between.
In his memory, we invite you to make a pot of Menudo, play Ramón Ayala, take a drive, and dance like Robert did.
