Born on September 10, 1945, in Brownsville, Texas, Roberto's life was marked by his devotion to his loving family, his country, and his love for legacy preservation through his extensive collection of Vietnam War memorabilia.
During his life, Roberto applied his skills as a talented welder for various prestigious firms, including Baker Marine and Brown and Root and others. This work paralleled his dedication as a serviceman, underscoring a career marked by discipline, honor, and a deep-seated love for his country.
Beyond his professional and military commitments, Roberto took great pleasure in the simple joys of life, enriching the lives of all who knew him. His substantial DVD collection, his preference for sharing Oreo and chocolate chip cookies with his cherished grandchildren, and his joy in recounting tales of valor from past generations were among the hallmarks of Roberto's life.
Roberto's loving spirit is carried forward by his dear wife, Beatrice Montes; his children, Robert G. Montes (Priscilla), Elisa Montes Zamora (Richard), Eric Montes (Kayla), and Julie Montes; his 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, whose lives have been profoundly shaped by his sense of humor, wisdom and kindness. He now joins his parents, Rosalio Montes and Julia Perez, and his siblings Rosalio Montes Jr., Tony Montes, Jesus Montes, and Ernesto Montes, who preceded him in passing.
He is survived by his brother Frank Montes, his sisters, Luz De Leon and Carmen Castro, also nieces and nephews who remember him and loved him deeply.
Those who wish to pay their respects may attend the visitation on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with a Holy Rosary recited by Deacon Botello at 6:00 pm at Funeraria Del Angel Memorial Holly, 3442 Holly Road, Corpus Christi, Texas. A funeral service will follow on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 9:00 am in the Memorial Chapel, with a Rite of Committal and Interment with Final Military Honors at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery at 11:00 am.
In Roberto's memory, rather than customary remembrances, contributions may be made to veterans' organizations, supporting those who have served with valor, much like he did. Funeraria Del Angel Memorial Holly is overseeing funeral arrangements, ensuring Roberto is honored with the dignity he richly deserves.
