Rodney “Rod” Bishop, passed away on April 17, 2019 in Houston, Texas with his wife of 57 years Geraldine (Mikulec) Bishop by his side. Rod married Geraldine on February 9, 1962 at St. Patrick Catholic Church and their journey together began.
Rod was the second son of June E. (Stocks) Bishop, who passed away in December 1996 and Houston Ira Bishop, who passed away in March 1963. His older brother, Hugh (Kay) and family are residents of the Annaville, Texas area.
Rod was 2 years old when the family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas. He was a happy kid, made friends easily, and respected and loved God and Country. He loved reading about the history of our country and playing golf. He was a cub/boy scout, liked fishing, riding bikes and building a Scout Hut with his buddies. Of course, the family dog was always a part of it all. After elementary school, he graduated from Roy Miller High School in 1957 with many of his classmates going back to the 5th and 6th grade. He enjoyed the high school reunions until his health began to take a toll on him.
When Rod entered the working world it was at PPG Industries. While there, he continued his education by attending Del Mar College (now A&I) and graduated with his degree. He also completed his military obligation by serving in the U.S. Army Reserve.
Rod’s work experience of some 35-40 years was in the Management Information Systems field. He acquired a broad range of knowledge of various hardware and software and oversaw design, development and implementation of Gas Purchase Contract Systems for the Coastal Corporation. When Coastal moved to Houston in 1974, Rod and Geraldine also came and settled in Northwest FM 1960 area. When Coastal moved again, they decided to stay in Houston and Rod accepted employment at Mitchell Energy and Development in The Woodlands, Texas. After retirement, Rod and Geraldine enjoyed visiting the hill country, as well as a trip with family and friends to Hawaii.
Rod and Geraldine are Life Members of the Clubs of Kingwood in Kingwood, Texas since 1971. Met some great folks who also played golf – thanks for the laughs! Geraldine is very proud to have been “Mrs. R.J. Bishop” and she is looking forward to joining Rod on the Big Course … “Fairways and Greens, My Sweetheart.”
Rod is survived by his loving wife, Geraldine (Mikulec) Bishop of Houston, Texas; brother, Hugh (Kay) Bishop of Annaville, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews, including a very special nephew: Danny (Sandy) Elzner of Tyler, Texas.
