It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce that Rogelio Alaniz gained his wings on March 28, 2024 at the age of 75, surrounded by his loving family. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
The first-born son of Francisco and Matilda Alaniz, Rogelio was born on June 6, 1948 in Warren, Minnesota, grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas and graduated from Miller High School in 1966.
At the age of twenty, Roy was drafted into the Army on April 10, 1968. He valued his service to our country highly and attained the rank SP-5. He served in the Vietnam War and was awarded eight medals and commendations while serving our country. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Aircraft Crewman Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Marksman, Sharpshooter, Two Overseas Bars and was honorably discharged on April 9, 1971 which completed his three years of service.
Roy worked hard to support his family with a 37-year career at the Corpus Christi Army Depot. He was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to his job. He married the love of his life, Oralia Munoz on March 10, 1973. He was actively involved in the lives of his children, whom he loved, supported and cherished every opportunity to be with them. He loved to dance and visit with family and friends when he could. He enjoyed reminiscing with people and knowing about their lives. He would light up whenever he’d see any of his kids or grandkids. He enjoyed coaching Little League and attending his son’s baseball games, and attending custom car shows.
Rogelio leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife of 51 years, and his children, Armando M. Alaniz, Amanda Garcia, Anita (Danny) Escamilla, Alicia (Paul) Gamez, Amy (Jesus) Gonzalez, Adam M. Alaniz, and Aaron M. Alaniz. Roy also leaves behind his 7 grandchildren, Arthur (Nikki) Garcia, Analysa (Jacob) Juarez, Noah Rivera, Aviana Rivera, Danika Escamilla, Daniel Christian Escamilla, and Samuel Roy Escamilla and 3 great-grandsons, Aiden and Austin Garcia, and Luke Juarez, all of whom he adored. He is also survived by his three sisters, four brothers, six sisters-in-law, and four brothers-in-law, all whom he loved dearly.
Roy’s gentle demeanor, warm smile, kindness, selflessness and willingness to help others will be remembered fondly by all whose lives he touched. While we grieve the loss of Roy, let us also celebrate the beautiful life he lived. May his legacy remind us to cherish our loved ones and to embrace every moment of happiness that comes our way. Farewell to a remarkable man whose love knew no bounds. Until we meet again, may his soul rest in eternal peace.
