In his younger years, Roy attended school in Munday and Weslaco, TX where he enjoyed playing sports. He played football at Abilene Christian University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry at Pan American College in Edinburg. He continued his education at Texas A&I University in Kingsville, ultimately receiving a Masters of Science degree in Biology.
During his schooling, he met and married his beloved wife of 49 years, Diana and had three children, Sergio, Richard, and Denise. Roy was a coach and teacher in Weslaco, then started his career with the Texas Water Quality Board. He was a supervisor for the U. S. Fish & Wildlife Service for over 25 years until he retired. During his retirement, he also assisted with the family limousine business. He continued his earlier teaching career at Miller High School where he also coached the girls’ soccer team. He had a passion for coaching where he coached football, baseball and soccer for numerous years throughout his life, touching the lives of all his players.
He reunited with a childhood sweetheart from Abilene and married Lydia Sanchez in Corpus on November 24, 2018. He gained two daughters, Helen and Marissa, and numerous grandchildren. They shared homes in both Corpus Christi and Abilene over the past 6 years, keeping in touch with their children and grandchildren.
Roy was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and loved to share the Word through fellowship. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Diana Almaraz Perez; son Richard Perez; parents, Ventura, Clara Perez, and his sister Dominga Ramirez.
He is survived by his wife, Lydia; son, Sergio Perez (Odella); daughter, Denise Perez Zambrano (David); step daughters, Helen Holguin (Hipolito), Marissa Sanchez; the loves of his life-his grandchildren, Ryan Zambrano (Marissa), Rebecca Zambrano; siblings, Fred Perez (Lupe), Paula Marines, Ventura Perez (Lupe), Blas Perez (Adela), Santos Esquivel (Jimmy), Aurora Ayala (Manuel), Rudy Perez (Maggie) and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A viewing and visitation for Rogelio will be held Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 5:00 PM at Memory Gardens Funeral Home & Cemetery, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415. A holy rosary will occur Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 7:00 PM, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415. A funeral mass will occur Friday, January 26, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 5830 Williams Dr, Corpus Christi, Texas 78412. A burial will follow at 11:00 AM at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
