Roman Aguilar Ortiz, age 75, passed away peacefully on March 28th, 2023, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born on December 15, 1947, to Maria Alicia and Pedro Prado Ortiz in Cedral San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. Roman was a graduate of Mary Carroll High School and later graduated from Del Mar College. He enlisted in the Army in June 1968 and received awards for being an expert marksman and paratrooper.
He married his wife of 52 years, Viola T. Ortiz, on June 19th, 1971. Roman was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Roman enjoyed being around his family and watching sports. He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, infectious laugh, and wise wisdom.
Roman was an Entrepreneur. His first profession in life was a baker for the family business, then he started home building and became a developer. Some of his greatest accomplishments were Saratoga Down Subdivision and Barcelona Estates. He was also an advocate for civil rights and was part of the American G.I. Forum.
Roman is preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings Socorro, Juanito, Maricela, and Pedro Ortiz. He is survived by his wife, his four children: Laura (Jesus) Reyes, Roman (Jenna) Ortiz, Gerardo Ortiz, and Cristal Ortiz. His 9 grandchildren: Kristin, Nicholas, Hannah, Angelina, Mia, Adam, Roman, Nathan, and Ethan. Roman is also survived by his sisters: Maria Elena Valenzuela and Alicia Garza. As well as his brothers: Humberto, Jose, Juan Manuel, Martin, and Modesto Ortiz.
Public visitation will be from 5pm until 9pm on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Funeraria Del Angel Memorial Holly 3442 Holly Road Corpus Christi, Texas 78415 with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm that evening.
Rites of a Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 17, 2023 at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery
