

Salvador Rodriguez Magaña, 85, died peacefully on April 19, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born to Manuel Magaña and Estefana Rodriguez Magaña on October 9, 1930 in Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico. Salvador married Ruth Martinez, his high school sweetheart, October 5, 1950.
He was educated in Skidmore, San Diego, and Corpus Christi, Texas. He attended Robert Driscoll Jr. High, and graduated from Corpus Christi High. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Del Mar College and Texas A & I in Kingsville in Education and his Master of Science in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Corpus Christi. He taught at Roy Miller, Foy H. Moody High Schools and served as a counselor at W. B. Ray High School until his retirement in 1992.
Salvador loved bowling, gardening, carpentry work, playing his guitar, writing short stories, and reading.
He served as a preacher with Spanish speaking Churches of Christ in Austin, Raymondville, Weslaco, Gregory, Robstown and Corpus Christi. He was a member of Iglesia de Cristo. He had several oral and written religious debates and wrote a book called “How to Better Understand the Bible”.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Mario Magaña, his daughter Linda Dianne Magaña, his sister Esperanza Quesada, his brothers Angel and Gerardo Magaña and Daniel Lara.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth, his sons Robert and Michael Magaña, his daughters Doris Magaña Casarez, and Cristina Magaña of Austin, his sisters Carmen and Virginia Magaña from Mexico, and Ascension Garcia from California, 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, April 22, 2016 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. with Interment to follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
