

She was raised in Rockport, where she attended public schools and worked in the retail business in her early life. She married Antonio S. Arsuaga Jr. on July 16, 1950 and moved to Corpus Christi, where they began to raise a family. Susie lived for her family and loved to bake. Her German chocolate cake was a favorite at family gatherings and birthdays. She enjoyed social functions and spending time with her grandchildren. Susie was a lifelong member of the Catholic Daughters of America Chapter 1149, Girl Scout troop leader, and worked many local precinct elections at David Crockett Elementary School. She enjoyed traveling with her family and was able to visit Graceland, New York City, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Atlantic City, where she liked playing the slot machines.
Susie is preceded in death by her loving husband, Antonio, of 50 years; her parents; siblings Nito, Frank, Henry and Elida Garza, and great grandson Christopher Tate Causey.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories three daughters; Linda Grubaugh of Corpus Christi, Gracie (Bob) Colin, and Cindy Arsuaga, both of San Antonio; three sons, Antonio III (Pam) of Rockport, Orlando of Corpus Christi, and Adolfo Ray of Centreville, VA. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and sisters Esther Benavides and Mary Lou Glaze of Rockport, Beatrice Plumleigh of Fort Worth; and Palmira Autrey of Baton Rouge, LA.
She will be dearly missed by all those who love her.
Visitation will be held at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park. Pall Bearers will include her grandsons: Antonio Arsuaga IV, Jason Arsuaga, Gavino Arsuaga, Edward Arriaga, Hector Colin III, and Brandon Gonzalez.
The family would like to thank caregivers Amanda Silva, Joann Bosell, Stephanie Ramos, Bonnie Munroe, Sister Maureen, Chaplain, Alfonso Orocio, and Dr. Veronica Escobar. We would also like to express sincere gratitude and appreciation to our sister, Gracie, who provided a loving, caring, and fun environment in the last few years of our mother’s life.
